Upscale line Oceania Cruises has begun taking bookings for another epic, 180-day voyage that includes stops in South America, Africa and Asia.
The unusual around-the-world sailing on the 684-passenger Insignia will kick off Jan. 4, 2016 in Miami and includes calls in 92 ports.
The 12-year-old line is rolling out the new itinerary in the wake of heavy demand for two other 180-day world cruises that it announced over the past year that are scheduled to take place in 2015.
The three trips are notable for their length. At nearly six months, they are about two months longer than the typical around-the-world cruise offered by competing lines.
The itinerary for the new sailing will start with a trip south to the Caribbean and South America before continuing across the Atlantic to Africa. Next up will be the countries of Asia including Myanmar and China. From there, the ship will head to Australia and the South Pacific before a stop in Hawaii on the way to the West Coast of the USA. A trip through the Panama Canal will bring the vessel back to Miami.
The voyage will include 14 overnight stays in ports such as Cape Town, South Africa and Shanghai, China, in keeping with Oceania's philosophy of offering itineraries that aren't as rushed as those of many of its competitors.
