The $20 million overhaul of the 19-year-old Crystal Cruises vessel brings redesigned spa and casino spaces, a major new fitness area and a revamp of the ship's centrally-located Crystal Plaza.
Completed during a two-week stay in a dry dock facility, the makeover also involved the conversion of 48 cabins into special hypoallergenic rooms. The cabins were outfitted with medical grade air purifiers that filter out 99.9% of airborne impurities.
The new fitness area, dubbed the Fitness Garden, is an outdoor space with fitness equipment that spreads across the back of decks 7, 8 and 12. The existing indoor fitness area on Deck 12 also got an upgrade with new Technogym equipment.
The revamp of the Crystal Plaza -- the ship's main lobby area -- included the addition of a towering waterfall, hand-made carpets, new unholstery and tables for fresh flowers. The nearby Cove Bar received a major makeover, too, with a revised layout that has the bar at the center of a luxury yacht-like setting.
Changes to the casino include the removal of a side wall to create a more open space and new slot machines. Also revamped was seating and decor of The Bistro eatery, and the ship was outfitted with new digital signage. Some cabins received new balcony furniture, and carpets in many rooms and public areas were replaced.
